Educational, not advisory
Everything published on Ask Eijaz — articles, books, companion workbooks and downloads — teaches spreadsheet technique. It is provided for general educational purposes only.
It is not accounting, audit, tax, legal, investment or financial advice, and it does not create an accountant–client, advisor–client or any other professional relationship. Nothing here is tailored to your circumstances, because we don’t know them.

You remain responsible for your own numbers
Reconciliation, financial modelling and management reporting are controls. Controls carry consequences, and the consequences land on you and your organisation — not on a book.
You are responsible for:
- verifying that a technique suits your data, your process and your circumstances;
- testing anything you take from these pages against your own data before relying on it;
- meeting whatever accounting standards, audit requirements and regulations apply to you;
- getting a second pair of eyes on anything that supports a reported number.
A formula that produces a plausible answer is not the same as a correct one. The books are explicit about this — several chapters exist purely to help you catch the cases where a reconciliation looks finished and isn’t.
Accuracy, and errors
Considerable effort goes into accuracy: figures in the books are computed from the companion workbooks by an automated build, and the build refuses to publish a figure that cannot be traced back to the underlying data.
Even so, errors happen. Material is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We make no promise that any technique will produce a particular result for you.
Found a mistake? Please tell us. Corrections are published, the workbooks are rebuilt to match, and buyers get the updated files free.
Sample data is fictional
The companion workbooks are built on invented companies, customers, invoices and people. Any resemblance to a real organisation’s records is coincidental. The data is deliberately imperfect, because real data is — that is a teaching device, not an error.
Software and versions
Microsoft, Excel and Microsoft 365 are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Ask Eijaz is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Microsoft.
Excel changes. Functions gain behaviours, and what works in one build may behave differently in another. Materials state the versions they were written and tested against; where behaviour differs between Excel 2016 and Excel 365, both are given.
